Avalon has been proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world with their 16 albums of praise and worship for over a decade now. Their time, talents, and treasures all for The Lord and are all a testament to their faith with the many charities they are involved in, their willingness to give of their time and their amazing voices that they use to serve God with. Jeremi who is in the band was one of the first artists to help CornerStone when we started. Now Janna and Gregg Long have blessed us with their time and answered our interview questions.
CS: Were you brought up in a Christian home?
Janna: I did grow up in a Christian home. My dad has been a pastor for almost 50 years.
CS: What was it like growing up for you?
Janna: I have wonderful memories of my childhood. Church was an integral part of our life and that is where my love of music began.
CS: What age were you when you knew you wanted to be in music?
Janna: I knew as a young child I wanted to sing, maybe 1st or 2nd grade.
CS: How has your music evolved since the group started?
Janna: While members and some of the sounds of Avalon have changed over the years, our core message has not. We still aim to boldly proclaim the Gospel through music. I guess our sound is less techno-pop than when we started. We've all grown as people and artists.
CS: Who writes the songs?
Janna: While Avalon has written some of our songs, we mostly record songs written by amazing writers here in Nashville, including our producers.
CS: What has been your biggest challenge as a Christian group?
Janna: Our biggest challenge as a group has been to stay consistent in all ways, despite many changes through the years.
CS: What message do you want people to get from your music?
Janna: Our message has always been to share the gospel and encourage the church body.
CS: Are there any other ministries you are involved in?
Janna: We partner with World Vision, Mercy Ministries, Feed the Hungry, as well as local ministries.
CS: What song on "Reborn" most speaks to your heart?
Janna: "Alive" is my favorite song on REBORN as it reflects some of my personal journey over the last year.
